Springs obtains license to use Egyptian cotton logo
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
April 17, 2003
FORT MILL, SC-Springs Industries, Inc., today announced it has signed an agreement to use the Egyptian cotton trademarked logo on product packaging, point-of-purchase material and other initiatives to promote the use of 100 percent Egyptian cotton in its home furnishings.
Springs signed a licensing agreement with the Egyptian Ministry of Economy and Foreign Trade, and the Alexandria Cotton Exports Association, also known as ALCOTEXA, which manages use of the trademark.
"Springs is delighted to be able to use the Egyptian cotton logo," said Crandall Bowles, chairman and chief executive officer of Springs. "Egyptian cotton is widely regarded for its exceptional quality, and we believe our customers will look forward to having a wider range of Egyptian cotton products in their stores."
The company will unveil its plans for products made with 100 percent Egyptian cotton products at a later date, Bowles said.
"The signing of this agreement marks yet another success of the Egyptian cotton logo in the U.S. market," said Dr. Youssef Boutros Ghali, Minister of Foreign Trade of Egypt. "It points out the increasing recognition by both manufacturers and customers of high-end home furnishings products of the difference between a product that bears the 100 percent Egyptian cotton logo and one that does not. Moreover, it certainly announces the joining of one of the key players in the field of home furnishings in the adoption of the Egyptian cotton logo as the mark of quality and comfort."
Springs Industries supplies leading retailers with a complete line of sheets, towels, comforters, rugs, window treatments and other coordinated home furnishings designed to simplify decorating for the consumer. The Company's major brands are Wamsutta(r), Springmaid(r), Regal(r), Graber(r), Bali(r), Nanik(r), and Dundee(r).
